Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects Opens Office in Nashville Area NASHVILLE – Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects, a regional firm focused on the design of K-12 schools,
Adair County Primary
Designed to replace the existing Colonel William L. Casey Elementary School, the new Adair County Primary Center focuses on K-2nd grade and is sited on the campus of the existing school.
The new primary center provides an energy efficient, healthy, easy to maintain environment that also provides state-of-the-art instructional technology. The community is welcomed into a bright, well-lit exciting lobby which leads to the Cafeteria and Gymnasium. The building plan is organized to support and encourage the use of these public spaces while still allowing ease of management by separating academic spaces securely from the community use spaces.
The schools green and healthy kitchen promotes the health of students as well as saving energy. The building is oriented on the site to maximize daylighting in the classrooms reducing energy usage and providing a healthier classroom environment for the students. The building is conditioned by a high efficiency geothermal heat pump system with units located on a mechanical mezzanine to reduce the amount of instructional time lost due to maintenance and thereby improving the ease of maintenance for the HVAC system.
The building includes a 600-seat Gymnasium, Kitchen, Cafeteria, Media Center, Administration, Computer Lab, Art Classroom, and Music Classroom. Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects used our interactive design process to involve the Staff and community of the school district and School Board Members in developing the goals and priorities of the new primary school.
