Project Details

Funded under the ARRA program, Sherman Carter Barnhart was hired as part of our annual contract with SLHA to expeditiously complete the design documents for the complete modernization of the James House. The goal of the renovation was to create an apartment complex competitive with other privately-owned developments for seniors.

To provide larger apartments and more open space living areas, the interior of the 10 story high-rise was reconfigured from 153 units to 126 units. Updated flooring and finishes throughout the apartment improved the overall appearance and ease of maintenance for residents. Energy Star Certified windows and appliances improved the overall energy efficiency of the apartment.

Upgrades to the lobby and common areas created an inviting atmosphere for residents and visitors. New amenities such as a sunroom, and outdoor as well as indoor seating areas, help build a sense of community with the residents. A wellness/exercise room encourages residents to maintain an active lifestyle. A classroom and computer lab provide opportunities for learning and maintaining connections with family members.
