Residents at the 11-story Kingsbury Apartments, worked hand-in-hand with Sherman Carter Barnhart, giving insight into the improvements they wanted to have incorporated into the modernization. The design objective was to completely modernize Kingsbury to be competitive with other privately-owned developments for seniors.
The design focused on creating better living environments for the residents by designing more open area living spaces within the apartments. Updated flooring and finishes throughout the apartment improved the overall appearance and ease of maintenance for residents. Energy Star Certified windows and appliances improved the overall energy efficiency of the apartment.
Upgrades to the lobby and common areas created an inviting atmosphere for residents and visitors. New amenities such as a sun room, and outdoor as well as indoor seating areas, help build a sense of community with the residents.
With their experience of working with multiple funding sources and familiarity in navigating federal programs, Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects is working with Dawson Springs to deliver a modern, affordable housing community with market-rate amenities.
