The Montgomery County Arena is a state-of-the-art two-level arena, featuring 4,200 seats, two regulation-sized basketball and/or volleyball courts as well as a baseball/softball/golf hitting area.

The lower level includes 352 chair-back seats. To accommodate various sized athletic events, the facility provides mezzanine-level retractable bleacher seating that when retracted, provides additional team practice areas. The upper level boasts its own restrooms and concession stands, so fans don’t have to go up and down the steps more than once.

Athletic support spaces include four locker rooms for both the men’s and women’s athletic programs along with athletic staff offices. The facility also features a fully equipped training room and laundry room. The building is heated and cooled by an energy-efficient geothermal heat pump system, and is equipped with translucent glazing panels which in daylight, reduce the need for artificial lighting, without creating glare issues associated with direct sunlight.

The new complex is sited to provide access to the existing high school, as well as provide restrooms, concessions and offices for the adjacent Athletic Complex – Cunningham Field.

Cunningham Field is a lighted, synthetic turf field, football facility that is also used for soccer, band, cheerleading, track & field, and other activities. A regulation size, lighted soccer field, is adjacent to the football field, which is used for middle school and high school soccer. This field is also used for track & field events. A regulation size synthetic rubber track, circles the lighted soccer field.

Sherman Carter Barnhart’s Site Design and Development Division master-planned the school site, as well as the renovation and replacement of the existing athletic complex. Implemented in phases, due to funding constraints, the athletic complex includes:

  • New synthetic turf football stadium with 1500 seat home grandstands and 500 seat visitors bleachers
  • The addition to the football field house
  • New synthetic rubber surface track with high school field events incorporated around a natural grass soccer field.
  • The relocation of the old track to the new location required the construction of retaining walls to create the required slopes for a competition track.

The storm drainage system for the synthetic turf is comprised of an underground collection system embedded in stone. The surface collection system around the track was designed for the safety of the student-athletes to avoid contact with structures located away from the competition areas.
