University Flats

University Flat’s architectural elements include a mix of brick masonry, limestone masonry features, and insulated metal panels gives, giving the facility an urban feel as the gateway to the South Campus Residence Halls development. University Flats, along with Lewis Hall, Donovan, Lyman Hall, and Haggin Hall, is one of five new residence halls developed along the University Drive corridor.

It is the first new student housing designed specifically for older students to provide the University with a continuum of opportunities for attracting their returning students. While the residence is constructed as one structure, it functionally operates as two buildings with separate entrances for upperclassmen and graduate students.

The upperclassmen residence features a mix of two and four-bedroom apartments. The graduate residence features a mix of one-bedroom apartments and studios. All units in both residences feature a private laundry and full-featured kitchen.

The upperclassmen entrance includes a prominent glazed curtainwall, limestone, and metal panel facade leading to a two-story main lobby. The lobby leads to an adjacent two-story Club Room, complete with a private kitchen, a fireplace, and an outdoor covered patio that can be reserved for private functions. A multipurpose room with a view is included on each of the top five floors. A breezeway provides a pedestrian connection from University Drive to the rear courtyard.

The graduate entrance features its own exclusive entry, with an extended height corner tower element comprised of curtainwall and insulated metal panels. The living environment is enhanced with work by local Kentucky artists scattered throughout the lobbies and public spaces. Both entries are equipped with UK blue and color-changeable lighting that will be illuminated on special occasions. The residence hall incorporates the latest technologies including wireless internet and satellite connections to enhance the living experience for today’s modern students.
