Matthew Pendrick, Associate AIA

Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Matthew moved to Kentucky in eighth grade. Initially aspiring to be a marine biologist, his interest shifted to architecture after encouragement from a high school art teacher impressed by a birdhouse design. This realization was reinforced by a lifelong passion for building, crafting, and sketching dream home layouts.

Matthew earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Kentucky in 2016, followed by a Master of Architecture in 2018. With over eight years of experience in Lexington firms, he joined Sherman Carter Barnhart to collaborate with Gabe Jones in the Higher Education studio. Matthew is gaining valuable project management and construction administration experience on projects like the White Hall and Funkhouser renovations while preparing for licensure.

Outside of work, Matthew enjoys bowling in a league at Southland Lanes, running the Polish American Cultural Society of Lexington, and pursuing 501(c) status to expand its community mission. His hobbies include reading manga, playing board and video games, building scale models (especially Gundam), airbrush painting, and exploring Lexington’s antique and vintage furniture shops. He also spends time with friends and his cat, Romeow.
