Before joining Sherman Carter Barnhart, Mitch honed his skills as a carpenter, designing and building both residential and commercial projects while completing his architecture degree. He launched his architectural career in 1996, and a decade later, he joined the firm’s K-12 Education studio as a project manager. While he loved designing, he missed the hands-on nature of fieldwork, leading him to transition to the firm’s construction administration team.
As a construction administrator, Mitch spends his days on-site, advocating for clients and ensuring projects are built to specification. His combined experience as a carpenter and graduate architect gives him a unique perspective, allowing him to bridge the gap between design and construction. One of his most exciting projects was Jennings Creek Elementary—a fast-track, 80,000-square-foot net-zero school that was completed in just 12 months.
Outside of work, Mitch is an avid gardener, much to the delight of his colleagues, who enjoy the fresh zucchini, cucumbers, squash, and other produce he shares. A passionate rugby fan, he can often be found at McCarthy’s, cheering on the Irish national team. He and his wife frequently visit her family in Ireland, making the trip with their two boys whenever possible.
