University of Kentucky engages Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects with SmithGroup to transform White Hall Classroom Building, an iconic campus site.
Rowan County Judicial Center
The Rowan County Judicial Center is located between West Main Street and West First Street, adjacent to the Rowan County Government Center, (also designed by Sherman Carter Barnhart). The two buildings are joined by sidewalks and green spaces, providing easy access to all County services.
The exterior design reflects the importance and permanence of the courts while incorporating the style and context of the local community. A stone rotunda entry accented with brick and stone masonry creates a dramatic entry into the judicial center. The windows incorporate the proportion and style of historic windows in the community. The varying height of the parapet accents the vertical height of the building and is reminiscent of the parapets found throughout the historic downtown and University buildings.
