The Redevelopment of the Cooperstown Housing

Chellgren Hall (formerly Woodland Glen I) & Ball Hall (formerly Woodland Glen II) represent the first phase in the redevelopment of the old Cooperstown Housing Complex as part of the partnership between the University of Kentucky and Education Realty Trust. The sister residence halls provide a modern living experience as well as opportunities for academic study and instruction for the students who live there. Combined, the buildings accommodate 818 students.

Two 5-story buildings comprise the living learning community and feature private 2-bedroom suites, designed around community living offering various living learning spaces, meeting and study rooms, social gatherings spaces, and three university classrooms. Chellgran Hall serves the R.O.T.C Community and Woodland Glen II serves as the Greenhouse Environment & Sustainability Residential College as well as the Agriculture Residential College.

Each residence hall features a community kitchen, hi-tech laundry facilities, and 2-story entry lobbies for use by all residents at Chellgran Hall & Woodland Glen II. The student living and learning environment is enriched with works by local Kentucky artists throughout the lobbies and circulation spaces. The residence hall showcases modern technology including wireless Internet and satellite television.

Each residence hall was designed around a courtyard to protect and preserve large existing trees. Each building boosts a study tower that faces the central campus Library and offers breathtaking views into the heart of campus. Chellgran Hall features a chiming clock tower that is back lighted with UK blue LED lighting that shines on special occasions. Both residence halls are constructed with the first level as a concrete framed structure with the upper levels being wood framed.

Both Chellgran Hall and Woodland Glen II are LEED Certified
