Kerry Young is a member of the firm’s Education Studio focused on business development. With an unwavering commitment to education, Kerry has spent a significant portion of his life serving as a Board Member for 16 years with Warren County Public Schools (WCPS), including 10 years as the Board Chair. In addition, he has served on his children’s elementary school’s SBDM for 8 years and has spent 6 years on the Kentucky School Board Association (KSBA) Board of Directors, with 3 years as the 3rd Region Chair and 3 years as Director at Large.
During his 16 years as a WCPS Board Member, Kerry had the opportunity to work with Sherman Carter Barnhart on 29 projects, including groundbreaking initiatives such as the nation’s first Zero-Energy school and the first Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) school in Kentucky, which also happens to be the largest ICF school in the nation. Kerry’s extensive experience and knowledge of school districts and school boards make him a valuable asset to our team, and he is excited to work with school districts throughout Kentucky to discuss the planning and design of their k-12 buildings.
Kerry is passionate about making schools an inviting and stimulating environment that students will want to attend. His confidence in Sherman Carter Barnhart is reflected in his decision to join our firm. He believes in the quality of our work and employees and would not encourage any school district to work with us if he didn’t believe in our capabilities.
Outside of work, Kerry enjoys spending time outdoors, engaging in activities such as golfing, hunting, fishing, kayaking, and hiking. These activities are even more special when shared with his family. When not exploring the great outdoors, Kerry loves traveling with his family to Disney, their “happy place.” Beach trips and cruises are also on their list of favorite vacations. Additionally, Kerry serves as the Director of his church’s summer camp, which involves coordinating around 70 adult volunteers for a week of service.
